IANS Received US Patent for Wake Vortex Flight Safety

IANS employees S.V. Alekseev, N.A. Baranov, A.S. Belotserkovsky and M.I. Kanevsky have received US patent No. 9,466,220 B2 for the method and on-board system for ensuring the minimum longitudinal separation distance under wake turbulent conditions.

International Civil Aviation Organization

ICAO is a specialized agency of the United Nations which sets standards for civil aviation as well as coordinates its development to enhance safety and efficiency. ICAO aims to foster and support the steady growth of air transport all over the world. Moreover ICAO coordinates global cooperation in all aspects of international civil navigation including international transportation.

ICAO also defines airport codes for all airports around the world. ICAO codes are used to identify aviation facilities such as weather stations, International Flight Service Stations or Area Control Centers. ICAO codes are used by air traffic control and airline operations such as flight planning.

Objectives of IANS within ICAO participation:

WTSG – to develop requirements for wake vortex flight safety systems (the experts are A.Belotserkovsky, M.Kanevsky).

Radio Technical Commission for Aeronautics

RTCA is a US nonprofit corporation, that develops recommendations based on consensus in the sphere of communication systems, navigation, monitoring and surveillance, as well as air traffic management.

RTCA functions as the Federal Advisory Committee. The US Federal Aviation Administration applies its recommendations as the basis for policies and for decision making.

RTCA target groups manage questions of transition to the global navigation satellite system and its implementation strategies, transition to digital communication, implementation and certification of the “Free Flight” project.

RTCA's objectives include but are not limited to:

  • ensuring safety and reliability of airborne systems;
  • developing minimum operational performance requirements for document-specific systems;
  • developing guidelines for regulatory authorities;
  • providing administrative and logistics resources to enable teamwork among the world-wide aviation community (e.g. International Civil Aviation Organization and the International Telecommunication Union and others).
Objectives of IANS within RTCA participation:

SG-206 – Development of MASPs wake vortex safety (the experts are A.Belotserkovsky, M.Kanevsky).

Civil Air Navigation Services Organization

CANSO is the greatest opportunity for the companies that provide air traffic control to present interests of air navigation suppliers. CANSO Members are responsible for supporting up to 85% of world air traffic.

CANSO members share information and develop new policies aiming to improve air navigation services on the ground and in the air. CANSO also represents its members’ views in major regulatory and industry forums, including at ICAO, where they have an official Observer status.

Objectives of CANSO:

  • to hold international forums as platforms for development and exchange of ideas on existing issues of air traffic management and to build its distinct policy;
  • to maintain constant development of ANS international experts network for further information exchange between concrete ANSP and other interested parties;
  • to provide connection with other concerned parties in the sphere of transport industry;
  • assistance in promotion and support of international legislation, normative documents and agreements which reinforce members’ positions.
Objectives of IANS within CANSO participation:

New technologies promotion in the sphere of air traffic control related to wake vortex safety.

European Organization for Civil Aviation Electronics

EUROCAE is a nonprofit organization established to ensure cooperation of European countries in the field of solving of electronic equipment technical issues.

EUROCAE works only with aviation standards (airborne and ground based systems, as well as equipment), and related documentation which is required for aviation regulation of equipment and systems.

EUROCAE Members are aircraft and airborne equipment manufacturers, regulatory bodies, European and international aviation authorities.

Objectives of IANS within EUROCAE participation:

WG-86 (under development): development of standards for remote monitoring and wake vortex forecasting systems (the experts are N.Baranov, A.Belotserkovsky, A.Volkov, A.Titov, M.Kanevsky)

SAE International is the global association, which unites over 128.000 engineers and technical experts in aerospace sphere and in the field of production, maintenance and transport control. The main field of specialization of SAE International includes constant improvement of knowledge and development of standards based on consensus taken on a voluntary basis.

This international organization of scientists, engineers and practitioners founded in 1916 was created to improve mobile machinery and increase level of system knowledge.

Objectives of SAE:

  • to unite students, engineers, practitioners and companies into integrated global network
  • to attract, manage and distribute information about changes by means of development and implementation of standards
  • SAE is the leader of global standardization
