BANS Took Part in HeliRussia 2018

From May 24 to May 26, 2018, the XI International helicopter industry exhibition HeliRussia 2018 was held at Crocus Expo, Moscow, where BANS exhibited its prototype of the helicopter onboard situational awareness system for helicopter crews (BSSO-B) for the first time.

Russian Nationwide UAV Exhibition and Conference at IANS Aerodrome

Russian Nationwide Exhibition and Conference “Unmanned Aerial Technologies for the Russian Fuel & Energy Sector” will be hosted by IANS on May 31, 2018 at Orlovka Aerodrome. The event is held under the auspices of the Russian Ministry of Energy.

IANS Remote Video Surveillance System Receives IAC Certificate

The Interstate Aviation Committee (IAC) has certified the first Russian remote video surveillance system developed by IANS. Similar certification activities are also being carried out by the Federal Air Transport Agency (Rosaviatsiya).

Unit PUMA-S
Intended Use

PUMA-S - Onboard Compact Satellite Aircraft Tracking Unit with Duplex Voice Capability provides for near real-time aircraft location and flight data acquisition and transmission of such data via Iridium-based data link to the ground control, and for two-way air-to-ground, and air-to-air telephone calls.

PUMA-S Unit provides worldwide for:
  • determination of current location using built-in Global Navigation Satellite System hardware (GLONASS and GPS, and prospectively GALILEO);
  • transmission of aircraft location data in Short Burst Data (SBD) format with pre-set frequency to the ground control via Iridium data link;
  • two way air-to-ground, or air-to-air telephone calls capability for the crew members (or passengers);
  • standard dialling and speed dialling capabilities;
  • two-way air-to-ground, or air-to-air Iridium SMS service;
  • transmission of SBD with an Alarm message to the ground control.
Brief Specification:

Iridium transceiver frequency band is 1,616÷1,626.5MHz.

GNSS signal receiver frequency band is 1,597.5÷1,609.5MHz for GLONASS constellation and 1,575.42 for GPS or GALILEO constellation respectively.

With regard to Iridium transceiver and antenna-feeder system (AFS) the product complies with RTCA DO-262A requirements, System specific attachment for Iridium Satellite.

With regard to GNSS signal receiver and AFS the product complies with standards and ICAO Annex 10, Vol. I, APPENDIX B as regards GLONASS and GPS signal acquisition requirements.

PUMA-S power supply should be provided from the onboard 8-36 V DC power supply system.

Size of PUMA-S' GNSS/Iridium subscriber unit does not exceed 150x70x150 (WxHxD).

Weight of the hardware piece does not exceed 1 kg.

PUMA-S uses module-based software.

PUMA-S Unit includes:
  • GNSS/Iridium Subscriber Unit;
  • GNSS/Iridium Two Element Antenna;
  • Wiring Kit (for Interface and Power Supply Connection);
  • Operation Manual (OM);
  • Spare Parts Kit (SK);

GNSS/Iridium Subscriber Unit consists of Iridium satellite transceiver and GNSS signal receiver (GLONASS and GPS).

Aircraft Tracking

The subscriber unit determines the current location and other flight data using embedded GNSS (GLONASS and GPS) hardware.

The acquired data are transmitted near in real-time through Iridium data link to the ground-based Iridium gateway.

Then the data are uploaded from the gateway to the global network, from which either via e-mail, or Direct IP protocol they are forwarded to the end users (e.g. ground-based air traffic control services, search and rescue agencies, or aircraft operators/owners).

One and more pre-programmed messages, and special "Alarm" message can be sent using Iridium data link besides the location and flight data.

Telephone Calls

Subscriber unit dialler dials a number, or selects subscriber number from the pre-programmed list.

Iridium satellite communications allows subscriber to place outgoing calls to other Iridium, mobile communication networks, landline, and other satellite communication system subscribers.
